Can I have a folder and collection with the same name in Webflow?

A client wanted to have some service pages dynamic (template-based and database-powered) and some static (regular pages). It was important for them to use the same subdirectory for both types of pages. For example:

  • A dynamic page: www.mywebsite.com/services/cleaning
  • A static page: www.mywebsite.com/services/grooming

Technical implementation

At first glance, this seemed achievable by having both a "Services" collection and a "Services" folder. Webflow allows you to create a folder with the same name as a collection (with only a warning about the conflict). However, in practice, if you proceed with this, the page will not be reachable after being published and will result in a 404 error.

The same issue occurs if you try to create a collection with the same name as an existing folder.

Conclusion

Although Webflow technically allows you to create a folder with the same name as a collection (or vice versa), you should avoid doing so. Pages created under these conditions will not go live. It’s better to keep all pages of one kind—either static or dynamic—to ensure consistency and avoid conflicts.
