How to set up Bing's IndexNow on my Webflow website?
Bing’s IndexNow is built into some content management systems like Wix and GoDaddy, and there are plugins available for platforms like WordPress and Shopify. However, Webflow does not currently offer native support for IndexNow, nor is there a third-party app to simplify the process.
While Bing outlines a simple four-step setup, most Webflow users will run into a roadblock at step two—there’s no built-in way to host the required API key file in the root directory of a Webflow site.
Is It Impossible to Set Up IndexNow on Webflow?
Not entirely. There are workarounds, but they require extra steps:
- Hosting the API Key Externally – You can store the required
.txt
file in a public S3 bucket (or another publicly accessible location) and set up a 301 redirect in Webflow’s hosting settings to point Bing to the file. - Using a Python Script – Another option is to create a Python Notebook that reads your
sitemap.xml
file and pushes the list of URLs to IndexNow. A Webflow community member, Trackingplan, shared this method here.
Is Webflow planning to integrate IndexNow?
While these solutions work, they’re not as seamless as a built-in integration. A feature request to enable Bing IndexNow API key hosting in Webflow has been on the Webflow Wishlist since February 25, 2022—but with only 69 votes so far (compared to trending requests that have over 3,000), it’s unlikely to be prioritized soon.
For now, if you need IndexNow functionality in Webflow, these workarounds are your best options.
