Handing Over the Reins: Using ChatGPT to Write Blog Posts

I'm exploring the question of whether or not ChatGPT can replace me as the author of blog posts on this website. This question breaks down into a few sub-questions:

  1. How well can ChatGPT understand what I need from it?
  2. Can it successfully write from my perspective?
  3. How original is its writing?

First, let me give you a quick overview of how ChatGPT works. ChatGPT, along with other similar programs known as "large language models," essentially repackages information found on the web into grammatically correct sentences. Unlike conventional search engines, ChatGPT rephrases the material from the web instead of quoting it. Although it doesn't fully understand the material (yet), it's quite adept at predicting which words should follow others. Its writing is impressively human-like, and with access to a vast amount of data and processing power, it's reasonable to assume that its writing should be better than mine. And, not surprisingly, that's true.

However, there is a catch. We don't just want generic blog posts. We want personalized posts that reflect our unique perspectives and experiences. Can ChatGPT deliver that for me? Can I communicate to it exactly what I need and who I am?

Let's put it to the test.

I always try to be polite with any kinds of AI. Who knows what's awaiting for us tomorrow...

First, I'll try to give ChatGPT an understanding of my perspective.

Based on everything I wrote above I'm not sure that this kind of questions has any value. Better safe then sorry.
This is info about me that felt relevant in that moment. I could probably do better.

When writing content for your website, it's important to keep relevant keywords in mind to ensure that search engines can easily find and display your article to a wider audience. It's not just about having text on your website, but rather crafting an article that is optimized for search engines and is more likely to be discovered and shared by readers. Let's find out weather ChatGPR understand the concept of key words and SEO.

Looks like it understands.

Okay, time for a big ask.

The key words I gave were: Webflow developer, website development, web agency Toronto, web specialist

Here's the articles written by ChatGPT:

As a Webflow developer and web specialist with expertise in website development, I often work with small business owners in Toronto who are looking to enhance their online presence. Whether you run a brick-and-mortar store or an online shop, having a strong online presence is more important than ever in today's digital age.

Small business owners may think that a website and online presence are not worth the investment, but that couldn't be further from the truth. A well-designed website can help a small business reach a larger audience, generate leads, and increase sales. Here are just a few of the many reasons why it's important for small business owners to invest in their online presence.

1. Increased Visibility: A website allows small business owners to reach a larger audience, including potential customers who may not have heard of their business otherwise. By having a strong online presence, small business owners can increase their visibility and reach new customers who are actively searching for products or services like theirs.

2. Credibility: A professional website can help establish credibility and legitimacy for a small business. By having a well-designed website, small business owners can show potential customers that they take their business seriously and are dedicated to providing high-quality products or services.

3. Cost-Effective Marketing: A website allows small business owners to reach a large audience at a fraction of the cost of traditional marketing methods. With a website, small business owners can market their products or services to a large audience for a relatively low cost, making it an effective and cost-efficient way to grow their business.

4. Customer Convenience: A website allows customers to learn about a small business, view their products or services, and make purchases all from the comfort of their own homes. This added convenience can help attract new customers and increase sales.

5. Competitive Advantage: In today's digital age, having a website is no longer a luxury, it's a necessity. Investing in a well-designed website can give small business owners a competitive advantage over their competitors who have yet to establish an online presence.

In conclusion, investing in a website and online presence is a smart business decision for small business owners. A well-designed website can help increase visibility, establish credibility, provide cost-effective marketing, offer added convenience to customers, and give small business owners a competitive advantage in today's digital age.

Okay, not that bad. Almost all of my key words were used (except Toronto). Structure is good. Google loves bullet lists. Introduction, conclusion and business proposition at the end - perfect. Can you hear ME talking to you? My personality? Who are we from the last paragraph? And where the heck is the joke?

A website with a yellow highlighted text that says
I can make better jokes.

Before we jump in conclusions I want to share an article written by ChatGPT in a new chat window without any additional information provided.

Small business owners often have limited resources, which means that they need to make every penny count. One area where small business owners should not hesitate to invest is in their online presence. In today's world, having a strong online presence is essential for the success of any business, and small businesses are no exception. In this blog post, we will discuss why it is so important for a small business owner to invest in their online presence.

1. Increased Visibility

One of the most significant advantages of having a strong online presence is increased visibility. With the majority of consumers turning to the internet to search for products and services, having a strong online presence means that your business is more likely to be seen by potential customers. By investing in your online presence, you can make sure that your business appears at the top of search engine results, which can help to attract new customers and increase your visibility.

2. Cost-Effective Marketing

Another reason why small business owners should invest in their online presence is that it is a cost-effective way to market their business. Traditional marketing methods, such as advertising in print or on television, can be expensive and not as effective as online marketing. By investing in your online presence, you can reach a larger audience at a lower cost and with more precision, helping to get the most out of your marketing budget.

3. Competitive Advantage

Having a strong online presence can give your business a competitive advantage in your industry. By investing in your online presence, you can set your business apart from your competitors and showcase your products and services in the best possible light. This can help you to win new business and retain existing customers.

4. Improved Customer Relationships

Investing in your online presence can also help you to improve your relationships with customers. By providing customers with a user-friendly website and engaging social media presence, you can make it easier for customers to interact with your business and learn more about your products and services. This can help you to build trust and loyalty with your customers, which is essential for the success of any business.

5. Stay Ahead of the Competition

Finally, investing in your online presence is crucial for staying ahead of the competition. In today's digital age, the way that businesses interact with customers is changing rapidly. By investing in your online presence, you can ensure that your business stays up-to-date with the latest trends and technology, which can help you to stay ahead of your competition and continue to grow your business.

In conclusion, investing in your online presence is essential for the success of any small business. By increasing your visibility, being cost-effective, gaining a competitive advantage, improving customer relationships, and staying ahead of the competition, investing in your online presence can help you to grow your business and achieve your goals.

In conclusion, I don't see a tremendous difference between the two articles in terms of their main content, which is understandable since the topic is the same. I'm even surprised that it bothered to paraphrase so much. I liked how organically ChatGPT used almost all key words I asked it to. I don't see much of my personality but being honest I didn't give that much information about myself either. Nevertheless, I liked how the main focus of the post was shifted to promote my expertise as a web developer and attract new clients.

So, can I delegate my writing duties to ChatGPT? Someone who is not concerned with originality can easily do so. I don't claim that everything I write is original, as nobody can make that claim. However, the goal of my blog is to share my unique perspective, insights, and experiences. I will certainly ask ChatGPT for help with gathering information and correcting spelling, but I don't believe that completely handing over the writing to ChatGPT would be the right strategy for me to follow.
